Question: What is the advantage of knowing the severity level of Bruxism if the treatment would be the same for any level?
Answer: In the US, there is a school of thought, about which splint to adjust, according to the patients' Bruxism severity. There are soft, medium and stiff splints from different materials a dentist must know how to fit them. Moreover, in most cases, the dentist would prefer not to use a splint on patients with result of 1 on a BiteStrip and instead only follow up. These are border line cases that might turn either way -- become severe or normal.
Additional benefits from knowing the severity levels are:
- Prioritizing patients in terms of treating the most severe first. Also, some severe patients might need to visit a sleep lab for more testing and the level of severity may play a role in who is seen first by the sleep lab.
- Enabling the dentist to convince the patient of their level of Bruxism.
Question: Can the BiteStrip be used for daytime Bruxism screening?
Answer: No. We are working with some of the top Bruxism experts in the world to develop this type of sensor. Please let us know of your interest and we will advise on availability.
Question: Is the BiteStrip FDA approved?
Answer: Yes it is plus it has CE approval as well.
Question: how many BiteStrips might a dentist use if they suspect a patient has Bruxism?
Answer: Three would ideal since in some cases, a patient may not brux on one night but will on the next. Having three nights of tests would help evaluate the patient and provide clarity of the patient’s condition.
